What is Liveability in CSA and LSPA Networks?
Liveability helps networks become more participative and inclusive and also helps them retain their social capital and workforce. It also enables networks to become healthier working environment, fostering a greater sense of purpose in the community and promoting active citizenship and well-being.
Building and maintaining long-term Liveability within LSPA networks requires commitment and work. However, it also provides the network with the strength and resilience needed to address contemporary challenges, both social and environmental, and gain momentum to build on the goal of achieving sustainable food systems.
To encourage participation, inclusion and equality; to understand how stress builds and emerges and impacts on work; and, to learn how to implement wellbeing measures inside your network, we worked on this topic during the ViVid Project , and developed tools to help Networks supporting Agriculture in this important aspect of their work.
The first resources is a Handbook focused on three main topics:
- Keywords: Build a Common Language
- Power Relations
- Care
Inside each module you can find the theoretical foundations, examples and a suggested exercise to start practising right away.
Afterwards, we decided to create a practical tool that would allow food networks to reflect on the theme of safe space as a fundamental and necessary prerequisite for addressing Liveability and well-being within their own networks. This resource is called The Compass of Safe Space, a tool for exploring and assessing whether a present or planned space for meeting and discussion within a network or group of people gathered for a common purpose is safe for everyone involved.
Since there could be no single solution or approach suitable for every context, rather than providing answers on what is a Safe Space, it lists questions in different areas (Methodology, Respect and Trust, Care, and Inclusivity) that will help you understand it.
You can check the the User Guide to learn how to create and use your own Compass!
