Community Supported Fisheries Around Europe: Switzerland

A contribution by Thibault Josse, Pleine Mer / URGENCI

Would you like to buy fish from local fisheries in Switzerland? Nothing could be easier, as there are many freshwater fisheries on Lake Geneva and Lake Neuchâtel for example.

If you are in the vicinity of Lake Neuchâtel, you will find Nathan Magnin, a local fisherman who sells his pike and trout in his mobile fish shop. So don’t hesitate to come and taste a pike slice or a perch fillet, by going to the market in Fribourg, to the port of Hauterive, or to Lignières.

Are you in the Lake Geneva area? Here too, local fishermen offer you delicious freshwater fish! If you are in Montreux for example, you can meet Brigitte and Henri-Daniel Champier from the fishery of Haut Léman. You will find the fishery on the edge of the Port du Basset: this is where the fish are prepared, gutted, scaled and filleted. Direct sales take place at the fishery on Thursdays and Fridays from 8.30am to 1pm, and on Saturday mornings at the Vevey market from 8.30am to 1pm.

Are you in Nyon? Go and taste a rillette de fera or a filet of perch from the Pêcherie Deli Nyon! And in Lausanne? The Ouchy fishery offers delicious pike, whole or filleted!

On June 27th, Pleine Mer published a new participative map of local fishing! We hope that many Swiss fishermen will sign up!
